Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain and perform general custodial duties in buildings under the jurisdiction of the Suffolk County Sheriff

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Work under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor.

None

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain general cleanliness and order of assigned areas, including but not limited to:

 

  1. Floor maintenance

Sweep and mop all floors in hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, and other designated areas daily;
Strip, wax and machine buff all tiled areas by schedule or as needed; Vacuum rugs daily;

  1. Trash removal

                    Empty and re-line trash receptacles in restrooms, dining areas, private offices, cubicles, locker rooms and
                    other designated areas;Collect paper from recycling bins and deposit in central location for pick-up;

  1. Staff Restrooms

Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, urinals, showers, counters, walls, doors and floors;
Restock toilet paper, paper towels, liquid soap, and air freshener as needed; Clean and polish mirrors

  1. Staff Locker Rooms

Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, urinals, showers, counters, walls, doors and floors; Dust tops of lockers on regular basis;
Wash locker doors on occasional basis; Clean and polish mirrors

  1. Staff Dining Room

                    Wash tables on daily basis, Clean chairs as needed

  1. Private Offices, Control Centers, and Conference Rooms

                    Dust furniture weekly, Vacuum rugs weekly

  1. Miscellaneous

                    Move small furniture or equipment as needed to complete assigned tasks;

                    Wash and polish windows as directed; Perform other duties as the Sheriff may assign from time to time.

  1. Know and comply with all security procedures
  2. Cooperate with other staff

 

EXPERIENCE

Prior custodial experience preferable, but not required;

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. often and up to 50 lbs. occasionally;
  2. Ability to periodically bend, squat or kneel to perform assigned tasks;
  3. Ability to physically handle machine buffer, mops, buckets and brooms
