Description

Maintains, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs computer systems, hardware, and computer peripherals. Documents, maintains, upgrades or replaces hardware and software systems. Supports and maintains user account information including rights, security, and systems groups. Performs basic operation, monitoring, installation, trouble shooting, relocations, or maintenance of communications equipment.  Identifies and resolves basic communications problems.  Prepares and assists in the preparation of service record documentation.  Shows awareness of standards and regulatory requirements related to assigned tasks.

Assists in monitoring and providing assistance on the use and interface of systems, subsystems, and software applications.  Responsible for accessing data, transferring data to various local, state, or county databases.  Assist in the review and recommendation of the inventory of information resources for hardware or software.  Experience in automated data processing systems.  Knowledge of the practices, principles, and techniques of computer operations, of information systems, of computer software and hardware, and of information security policies and procedures.  Skill in the use and support of personal computers, in the use of applicable programs and systems, and in troubleshooting information systems.  Ability to operate information technology systems, to communicate effectively, and to train users and others.   

Provides assistance in maintenance of various system applications.  Provides technical assistance and support for applications and hardware problems.  Installs, maintains, moves, and assists in testing and upgrading new and existing hardware/software.  Reviews and recommends procurement of information technology equipment.   Maintains the necessary security controls over software.  Makes presentations and briefings for training sessions.  Prepares reports, and evaluations on system efficiency and utilization.  May be responsible for accessing data from and transferring data to various local, state, or county databases. 

Other duties are assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Extensive knowledge of PC functionality, connectivity and cabling requirements, application software installation, and troubleshooting required;
  2. Experience providing technical and customer support preferred; 
  3. Knowledge of, compliance with, and enforcement of Department, as well as I.T. Division, policies preferred;
  4. Experience with Windows 10, Microsoft Office;
  5. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  6. Ability to interact with the public in a pleasant and discreet manner.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels throughout the organization, in other agencies, and in private industry.  High levels of customer service, independence, leadership and willingness to write and maintain documentation.  Must perform duties with a high degree of confidentiality;
  7. Ability to demonstrate initiative and to work with co-workers and consultants.  Self-motivator, ability to meet project deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously and ability to prioritize issues is essential;
  8. Ability to complete moderate to complex level of qualitative and quantitative analyses.  Strong analytic and problem solving skills are required.  Ability to write effectively and maintain technical documentation.  Attention to detail is crucial.  Need for creativity, flexibility and organizational skills.  Ability to maintain accurate records; and
  9. Ability to recognize networking or administrative problems and to recommend solutions to improve efficiency.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Regular, punctual and predictable attendance at assigned workplace and post.  Ability to work occasional nights or weekends on specific projects if necessary;
  2. Compliance with security procedures;
  3. Obeying moderately complex oral and written orders;
  4. Communicating orally and in writing;
  5. Dealing calmly and effectively with stressful situations, including emergencies; and
  6. Exercising good judgment.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS FOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Ability to run, pull, splice, and test telephone wires and data cables;
  2. Ability to work under desks and cubicles to address connectivity issues;
  3. Ability to lift 50 pounds overhead;
  4. Ability to do overhead work;
  5. Ability to read instrumentation and document recordings in logbooks and computer programs;
  6. Ability to hear telephone ringing and audible alarms;
  7. Ability to effectively communicate with others; and
  8. Ability to stand and walk for periods of at least eight (8) hours.
